How quickly can you double sales in your company? It’s an answer we’d all like to know but, too often, we allow ourselves to be misled by HUGE promises that hardly ever deliver.
I love ambition and think it’s helpful for growth, both in business and in life. However, some of the promises made in the wonderful world of sales and marketing – whether on social media, in your inbox and pitched down a phone – are ridiculous. And what’s worse, too many of us believe them. Well, we do until we try them out.
I read recently of a training course promising to double your sales in a staggeringly short timeframe, irrespective of industry, economic conditions and quality of product or service, it appears. In the real world, modest regular improvements almost always beat the fictitious promised land of ‘10x your life!’
When we find small, incremental improvements to be consistently good, that delivers good results – sometimes great results – over time.
Tony Robbins once said that we overestimate what we can achieve in a year and underestimate what we can achieve in a decade. Slower, steadier growth with purpose wins the day in most cases. Remember that 80% of new year resolutions fail within the first 6 weeks. Chief among the reasons for failure is the fact that we set our aims too high.
Unrealistic goals are too hard for most of us to hit and we end up with no improvement whatsoever because we give up.
When looking at training programmes for yourself or for your team – whether for sales or other roles – combine your ambition for growth with the realism to recognise that change is most effective with small steps every day.
So, how quickly can you double sales? If someone can help make changes that improve results and give a mechanism to sustain the improvements, you can double your sales and more. It just won’t happen in a month.
